HRSA Data Warehouse (HDW) analyzer tools search input criteria against the most current shortage or rural health geographic data to determine whether a state, county, or street address are within a designated shortage area or rural health area as defined by HRSA’s Office of Rural Health Policy.
- Find Shortage Areas – Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSA) are designated by HRSA as having shortages of primary medical care, dental or mental health providers and may be geographic, demographic or institutional. Determine whether an address is located in a shortage area:
- Medicare Physician Bonus Payment Eligibility – Medicare makes bonus payments to physicians who provide medical care in certain areas that are primary care HPSAs and to psychiatrists who provide services in mental health HPSAs. Find out if an address is in a HPSA that is eligible for the Medicare HPSA physician bonus.
- Medicare Telehealth Payment Eligibility – Medicare pays for a limited number of services that are furnished by a physician or practitioner to an eligible beneficiary via an interactive audio and video telecommunications system. Find out if an authorized originating site is eligible for Medicare telehealth payment.
- Rural Health Grants Eligibility – Health care providers who provide services in geographic areas that are defined as Rural Health areas are eligible to apply for Rural Health Grants. Determine whether an address or county is eligible for rural health grants.
